The General Directorate of Turkish Highways has produced a Turkish language version of CEDR’s 2013 Forgiving Roadsides Design Guide.
For the implementation of CEDR’s outputs, translation of CEDR reports into national languages is a proven method to increase uptake. The national road authority of Turkey, Karayolları Genel Müdürlüğü (KGM) has translated the 2013 Forgiving Roadsides Design Guide for wider use.
This report was produced by CEDR Task Group Road Safety based on the work done by the ‘IRDES’ project in the 2009 Safety at the heart of road design programme.
The roadside features for which the Forgiving Roadsides Design Guide has been developed are barrier terminals, shoulder rumble strips, forgiving support structures for road equipment, and shoulder width. Each feature is analysed in a separate section of the guide and the document has clearly defined recommendations for (national) road administrations in Europe.
