CEDR Climate Change Research: November 2018 Summit

From November 19 to November 20, 2018

The final results of Call 2015 Climate Change will be presented at an event on November 19-20, 2018, at the LEF Future Center in Utrecht, the Netherlands. This event will also review the results of all CEDR-funded Climate Change research over the past 10 years in an effort to quantify these impacts and develop mitigation and adaptation measures and tools.

**For registration, please use the form the bottom of this page.**

Conference Programme

A draft programme for the event, together with hotel and venue information, is available to download here.

Climate change and extreme weather events are impacting road safety, traffic movements and the sustainability elements of our infrastructure. What are the implications of these developments for National Road Authorities (NRAs) and their responsibilities? The Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR) has conducted in-depth research over the last 10 years in an effort to quantify these impacts and develop mitigation and adaptation measures and tools. In November 2018, their final results will be presented during the Climate Change Summit at Rijkswaterstaat in the Netherlands.

Adapting to Future Challenges

The results of this research mark the beginning of a new implementation phase. The focus of the summit is the next step: how to integrate and  implement previous and current CEDR research findings, related to climate change, into decision-making and work practice. During the summit, there will be a number of knowledge-sharing presentations related to the  2015 climate change programme as well as high-level presentations from World Road Association PIARC on activities related to climate change adaptation and resiliency, and the international climate change adaptation framework for road infrastructure. The organisers are inviting climate change specialists in general and young professionals who want to explore the subject to join. This specialist research can influence how our NRAs adapt to future climate challenges in a positive and constructive manner.

Discussion topics

Over the past 10 years, the following calls have resulted in projects that provide practical tools and insights to deal with climate change:

Below is a selection of projects that will be discussed, focussing on the most recent call, during the summit. Previous findings related to the earlier calls will also be presented.

Embedding climate change into practice and procurement
The DeTECToR project will present the tools and guidance it has developed to help NRAs evaluate the business case for climate change adaption and how to incorporate climate change in procurement and operational processes.

Developing a transnational approach to water management in the face of climate change
The WATCH project will present results addressing the requirement for a transnational approach to water management in the face of Climate Change. This includes guidance on how to carry out a Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) as a prerequisite for implementation of the results.

Driver behaviour: Diagnosing driver decision-making  (in a changing climate)
MODBEAR will present its evaluation of different mobility management measures including their effect on travel and transport behaviour and on greenhouse gas emissions. This includes combinations of different mobility management measures and descriptions of cost efficiency measures.
